1. Extract the data (1-2 Pages)
The event of the advance and retreat of Napoleon's army in Russia from 1812 to 1813 involves many attribute as we have discussed in the class. You are first asked to extract numerical data from hitorical literature of the online version of Minard's drawing. There are a few possible resources you could find out relevent information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_invasion_of_RussiaYou need to write a detailed description of the data domain. In this part, you should discuss the data source, dimensionality, data size, etc. Draw a few graphs for better understanding of the data if necessary.
2. Implement your design (due Oct 24th)
You can either follow the design of Minard's illustration, or make your own design to visualize this historical event. When you select a specific visualization technique, you should select a right type that matches with the data you are going to visualize. Use the programming language and toolkit of your choice to implement your design. Submit a final executable program together with the source codes. You must use brushing&linking in your program. Interaction should be employed.
3. Prepare a report and PPT for your work presentation (due Oct 31)

|Assignment 2: Visualizing Spatial-Temproal Data: Beijing Air Quality Data (20%)|
1. Visualization Design (1-2 Pages)
You should write a detailed description of the data and the design you are trying to implement. In this part, you should discuss the data type, dimensionality, data size, and what insight you want to make.
2. Implement your design (due Dec 2nd)
Note you need to make the program accessible online. You are recommended to use D3.js and other visualization library to make you implementation affordable. Submit the source codes and you will provide instructions to upload your visualization on course website for open access.
3. Prepare poster for your work presentation. Also prepare a two page report explain your design and results. (report format will be provided. (due Dec 5)
